David Kim
Linguistics Researcher
Dr. David Kim holds a PhD in Computational Linguistics from MIT, where his research focused on phoneme analysis in constructed languages. He ensures that every name generated by the Star Wars Name Generator follows authentic phonetic structures specific to each species and culture. His academic rigor combined with his passion for Star Wars creates a unique bridge between linguistic science and creative expression. David's work has been published in academic journals and presented at international conferences.

The mathematics of language reveal the soul of a culture—even fictional ones.
My Approach
Constructed languages fascinate me because they sit at the intersection of creativity and formal structure. Star Wars is unusual in that it doesn't have a single conlang — it has dozens of implied phonological systems, each associated with a different species. My contribution to this project is formalizing those implied systems into computational models. I analyze the statistical distribution of consonant clusters, vowel harmony patterns, and syllable stress in canonical names, then encode those distributions as probabilistic grammars. The result is a generator that doesn't just sound right — it's mathematically faithful to the source material.
Research Philosophy
Linguistics is an empirical science, and I apply the same rigor to fictional languages that I would to natural ones. When I claim that Sith names favor voiceless stops and back vowels, that's based on a phonemic inventory analysis of every canonical Sith name in the database. When I say Twi'lek names show a preference for open syllables and liquid consonants, that's backed by frequency analysis across 200+ attested names. This data-driven approach is what makes our generator genuinely different — it's not opinion-based, it's evidence-based.
