This is the way... to write clean, efficient code that serves the community.
My Approach
Most people don't think about the engineering behind a name generator, but there's real complexity under the hood. You can't just concatenate random syllables and call it done — you need weighted probability distributions that respect syllable structure, phonotactic constraints that prevent unpronounceable clusters, and species-specific rulesets that produce names with the right 'mouth feel.' I architected our engine as a pipeline: input parameters feed into cultural filters, which constrain a phoneme selector, which assembles candidates, which pass through a validation layer. If a name doesn't clear every gate, it never reaches the user.
Research Philosophy
Performance and accuracy aren't competing goals — they're the same goal viewed from different angles. A fast generator that produces bad names wastes everyone's time. A slow generator that produces great names frustrates users before they see results. My job is to make the algorithm both rigorous and instant. Every optimization I make — caching phoneme tables, pre-computing syllable weights, lazy-loading species data — exists so the research team's linguistic models can run at the speed users expect from a modern web tool.
